The 10-week 2012 Cincinnati Malt Infusers Beer Judge Certification Program Preparation Course begins on Tuesday, Feburary 14th...sort of. This weekly study group will be meeting at Table Top Brewing each Tuesday to prepare participants for the BJCP Exam. The Cincinnati Malt Infusers are hosting the BJCP Exam at Table Top on Saturday, April 28th. However, due to the fact the initial date falls on Valentine's Day, the start date may be delayed one day or postponed a week so no one's significant other is neglected.  Great news! Great Lakes Brewing Company Brewmaster Luke Purcell will be one of the judges for the Cincinnati Malt Infusers & Cincy Winter Beerfest All-American Ale Homebrew Competition on February 11th. Luke will participate in judging, as well as give a technical talk to the judges and stewards participating for the competition.  The Cincinnati Malt Infusers' own Dave Dixon, a former member of the American Homebrewers Association Governing Committee, has decided to through his hat back in the ring. Dave is seeking election once again to the AHA Governing Committee this year. 

 The program for the Cincinnati Malt Infusers February 2012 meeting is guest speaker Brewmaster Mike Dewey, as part of our program for Cincinnati Beer Week. Mike is the Brewmaster & Owner of the Mt Carmel Brewing Company and he has always been extremely supportive of the Cincinnati Malt Infusers over the years. Having Mike part of our program is always informative-and a lot of fun. Stop by our meeting at Paradise Brewing Supplies, our meetings are always open to the public.  Service arrangements have been announced for friend & fellow Cincinnati Malt Infuser, Brian Miller, who we just lost to cancer two days ago. The following is a message from Brian's Sister-In-Law:

Brian D. Miller Obituary

The Cincinnati Malt Infusers are sad to have learned that Brian Miller, long time member of the Cincinnati Malt Infusers, passed away Tuesday, January 17th after a long battle with cancer. Brian leaves behind his wife Kim, son Wesley, & many friends. Brian was a particularly close friend to fellow infusers Geoff Morris, Conan Crofoot, & Mark Byron. Please keep Brian, his family & friends in your thoughts & prayers.

 The Ohio, Michigan & Indiana Brewery Trip has had a change. More information from Organizer John Graff:

There were insufficient reservations by January 1, 2012, for the March Ohio/Michigan pub crawl.  Therefore, the trip, as originally designed, is canceled.

I am going to take this trip, and plan to rent a van to accommodate up to 15 passengers.  I plan to keep the same itinerary.  The total cost per person of the van rental (total of approximately $522) and gasoline will be based on the number of participants.

Room reservations are being held until January 20.  The only location for which this date is critical is Grand Rapids, Michigan (location for Hopcat and Founders).  There is another event in Grand Rapids on the weekend of March 23.  If I have your deposit by January 20, I will make your reservation.  After January 20, you will need to make your own hotel reservation.  Particularly in Grand Rapids, this may mean that you will be in a different hotel, or that you will not be able to find a room.  However, whether I make the reservation, or you make the reservation, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF YOUR HOTEL ROOM.
